Like many restaurants in Roppongi, eating at atelier Morimoto XEX doesn’t come cheap. But some truly excellent teppanyaki can be had here if you’re willing to splurge.

You’d miss atelier Morimoto XEX if you weren’t looking for it. Located down a side street on the slope leading up to Roppongi from Nogizaka Station, the entrance to the restaurant is marked by a small, discreet sign and a vase of flowers on the floor.

Atelier Morimoto XEX serves teppanyaki - where the food is cooked on a hot iron plate right int front of diners - in thoroughly modern surroundings. The food is predictably high-end and high-calorie. Think lush, buttery cubes of Kobe beef, grilled lobster, and some of the best fried rice you’ll have in your life. It's nothing overtly scientific or outre here - just solid, delicious food at a higher price point than normal.
As with many restaurants in Roppongi, you’ll need to have slightly deeper pockets for this one. Meals here can run to around JPY30,000 a head with a modest drink or two. Save it for a special occasion.
