If you have a weakness for beautiful, well-designed products, the Axis building spells trouble for your wallet. This complex contains six floors of shops filled with products to fuel a fashionable lifestyle straight out a high-end magazine, ranging from interior design to art books to organic toiletries.

On the ground and basement floors, for instance, is Living Matter. Its selection of furniture and kitchenware (we saw some gorgeous mugs and sleek porcelain dishes) is sure to keep shoppers happily occupied for a while.

In the basement is Nuno, a shop stacked high with large rolls of fabric, mostly hand-woven, often incorporating unusual objects like feathers and Japanese paper.

It’s worth popping in just to admire the lovely colours and textures. Next to Nuno, there’s an unprepossessing gift and stationery shop that sells quality hardcover notebooks at half the price of more famous brands like Moleskine or Rhodia.
