With over 70 beers on tap, Beer Club Popeye in Ryogoku is a favorite with Tokyo beer drinkers for their vast selection. It goes without saying that the quality here is high, too.

Ryogoku is an odd place to have a stellar craft beer bar, and even stranger still when it’s called Popeye’s and serves no spinach. But, with over 70 beers on tap, Beer Club Popeye is quite possibly one of the best places in Tokyo to hunt down some very special drinks.

Most of the beers on tap are from Japanese breweries, with a few American and British imports showing up. Popeye is all about quality and quantity. The staff are highly knowledgeable about the beer, so whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned drinker looking for something new, they’ll be able to recommend one or several for you to try.

If you can’t decide on a single drink - and we don’t blame you - try their 10-beer tasting flight. The food isn’t great and feels like it’s there just for the sake of it. But that’s alright, because you’re really at Popeye’s for the beer.
