Tokyo has no shortage of tiny hole-in-the-wall spaces to hang out in. But for a spacious cafe where you’re more likely to find a seat, try Brooklyn Parlor in Shinjuku. Located in the basement of Marui Annex, this is a a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku shoppers.

Those craving wholesome American food will find some very decent fare here: burgers, waffles, pancakes, proper lager. There are shelves upon shelves of magazines and art books for diners to peruse over food. Aside from the Japanese language menus (though English language menus are also a given here), you’ll feel as though you’re at a cafe in New York.
