Canal Café on a canal in Iidabashi, northwest of the Imperial Palace, is a nice place for a light meal on a sunny day. This outdoor cafe isn't not worth a special trip, but it's a decent choice if you're in the area.

There are al fresco cafés, and then there are al fresco cafés. Few in Tokyo have prime locations like Canal Café. As the name suggests, it’s located right on the canal parallel to the Chuo Line train tracks near Iidabashi Station, and a stone’s throw from nearby Kagurazaka.

Serving up Italian-esque food, the meals here aren’t bad, though prices are on the more expensive side. If it’s great food you’re seeking, you’ll find far better at other restaurants in town. The real draw at Canal Café is sitting out on the deck for the waterfront view and to watch the trains rumble past. In the summer evenings, it’s even possible to see fireflies in the evenings.

Their rotating selection of gelato includes flavors like blood orange and pistachio. At JPY390 a cup, it’s not a bad snack to have out on the deck while enjoying the scenery.
