October 2022: Please note Gonpachi G-Zone Ginza has now permanently closed. Please see our Ginza page for other places to dine in the district.
The food at Gonpachi G-Zone Ginza might be mediocre at best, but it is kid-friendly, smoke-free, English-friendly, and accommodates large group bookings. That’s more than can be said of many restaurants in Tokyo.

Located at the end of a cavernous tunnel in a restaurant complex, Gonpachi G-Zone Ginza is a restaurant serving Japanese cuisine. Pretty much all the hits familiar to tourists are covered here: tempura, soba, yakitori, teppanyaki, sushi, and even California rolls make an appearance.

Frankly, with so many excellent restaurants in the surrounding area, there are very few reasons for anyone to eat at Gonpachi G-Zone Ginza. The food in this restaurant is mediocre at best, and its main claim to fame is that one of the sister branches appeared in Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

Still, Gonpachi does have a few things going for it. The restaurant premises are huge and they take bookings for large groups. This is a lifesaver if you have one or several families traveling together, or you have a tour group full of picky eaters. It’s a kid-friendly restaurant, it’s non-smoking, and it’s pretty English-friendly.

If you care about eating really good food, Gonpachi is not the place for you. But if you’re traveling with family and friends, and need somewhere to accommodate five picky eaters and two toddlers in tow, this is a pretty good place to go.
