Ippodo, one of the most famous purveyors of tea in Kyoto, has a store in the Marunouchi district of Tokyo - so you don’t have to head out west to stock up on some of the best green tea in Kansai.

Founded in 1717, tea purveyor Ippodo has supplied fine green tea and matcha to Kyotoites and visitors to the western city for centuries. In 2010, they expanded to the nation’s capital and opened a store in Marunouchi, and now you can learn all about the art of tea without having to hop on a bullet train.

Ippodo’s offerings are characteristically varied and high-quality. Everything from sencha to hojicha to genmaicha is represented here, and the staff are on hand to advise between the different grades of tea or matcha powder that you might want to purchase. Alternatively, if you just want a cup of tea, there are takeout options available too.

At the adjoining tea room - which is also characteristically elegant in its decor - customers can take some time to try and enjoy different varieties of tea. There are even tea-related events or classes you can participate in, should you desire. Just ask the staff for further details on classes taking place on that day.
