KITTE is a stylish shopping and dining complex located at the south exit of Tokyo Station. It’s home to some great restaurants on the 5th and 6th floors, as well as the basement. Don’t forget to check out the rooftop garden.

KITTE, the shopping complex on the lower floors of the 200-meter-tall JP tower, aimed to showcase the best of Japanese design, culture, and lifestyle. They haven’t gone wrong there.

The gorgeous glass-heavy atrium is home to a fantastic museum (free entry) and a well-curated set of shops that obviously emphasize good design and style.

We’d wager, however, that the basement, 5th and 6th floors will be of more interest to most visitors. These are the restaurant floors, and the offerings are all well above average.

Come 11am, you’ll see queues starting to form outside Nemuro Hanamaru, a popular conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Unless you really need your sushi fix, skip this and try any of the other excellent restaurants in the building. After your meal, head to the rooftop garden for views of Tokyo Station from above.

Whether it’s sushi, motsunabe (innards hotpot), ramen, soba, or Western food, there are enough options in KITTE to keep even the choosiest diner happy. Honke Abeya, a chicken specialist from Akita prefecture with an outpost in the basement, comes highly recommended, as does Yachimun, a tasty home-style Okinawan restaurant.
