Toyota Mega Web in Odaiba isn't just for automobile geeks. Anyone passing through is sure to have a blast checking out the cars and virtual reality experiences!

Mega Web is Toyota’s self-styled automobile theme park in Odaiba’s Palette Town complex, featuring - what else? - Toyota’s own vehicles. Around sixty current models are on show here, ranging from those on sale worldwide to more futuristic concept models. It’s a fascinating look at the automobile industry and its future, even for those who aren’t really interested in cars or driving.

There’s plenty else besides the cars themselves. Virtual reality experiences allow visitors to “drive” a hybrid car or experience a self-driving vehicle, and there are exhibits on the history of cars and various technologies behind making Toyota vehicles. If you’ve ever wondered what makes a hybrid car more environmentally friendly, this is the place to find out.

If you’re thinking of purchasing a Toyota car, this is a great place to test them out out before committing - with the added bonus of expert advice from the Toyota folks themselves. Note that if you do want to test drive any of the cars, you’ll need to have an international driving permit or a Japanese license handy. It also costs JPY300 per test drive on the 1.2km course, which may force you to narrow your options on the day. Reservations are recommended.

That being said, kids aren’t entirely left out of this theme park. There’s a section of Mega Web called the Kids Hybrid Web One, where children can ride a motor-assisted hybrid cart. Naturally, they won’t need a driving license for this. They can also head over to the Winglets section, which allows them to test out mini Segways.
