If you like bathing, you’re in luck. Head over to Oedo Onsen Monogatari in Odaiba to experience Tokyo’s only “natural onsen theme park” and soak yourself silly in jacuzzis and open-air baths all day.

Japan is famous for its hot spring baths, but the Oedo Onsen Monogatari in Tokyo takes the national pastime of bathing in onsen to the next level with its “natural onsen theme park.”

Not only are there 13 different natural hot spring water-fueled baths to soak in, there are also saunas, spa treatments, fortune-telling services, carnival games, napping lounges, stalls, and restaurants galore.

All of this takes place in a large Edo period-style hall to take you back to the good old days when everyone actually wore kimono. Atmosphere-wise, it’s very much like a summer festival, especially since everyone is wearing yukata. There are lodgings available, should you really wish to stay the night, but most bathers come just for the day.
Officially, bathers with tattoos aren’t allowed to bathe at Oedo Onsen Monogatari. While we’ve heard of tattooed folks using the baths, they usually have strategically-placed bandages over their tattoos, and hide the tattoos under their yukata while walking around.
These days, most other bathers don’t seem to mind - it is the 21st century after all - but note that you’ll be asked to leave straightaway without a refund if reported or discovered. Bathe at your own risk.
