Roppongi Hills is like a city within a city. Everything you could possibly need or want is here - including some of the best sky-high views of Tokyo from the 53rd floor of Mori Tower.

As a place to live, Roppongi Hills falls squarely within the 1% zone for most Tokyoites - a one-bedroom place in one of the condominiums will set you back at least JPY550,000 a month, if not more. Luckily, you don’t have to live or work here to take advantage of what Roppongi Hills has to offer. Centered around the impressive 238 meter Mori Tower, there’s plenty for visitors to see and do at this multi-level complex.

This building complex has pretty much everything you can think of to keep you entertained and fed. Excellent restaurants abound, from the pricey Joel Robuchon to more accessible places like Afuri ramen and Butagumi Shokudo. The Toho Cinema movie theater plays both Japanese and international films (the latter on the same delayed schedule as everywhere else in Japan), and you’re likely to find subtitled Japanese films showing here. If the shopping begins to pall, you can head to the Mori Garden for a break.

The best part about Roppongi Hills is quite possibly the Mori Art Museum on the 53rd floor of Mori Tower. Its exhibitions are consistently good to great, with a strong focus on contemporary art and making that quite accessible to the public. If art doesn’t float your boat, go up anyway for the Tokyo City View observatory deck. This gives you one of the most stunning views of Tokyo, and at half the price of the Sky Tree.

Navigating this mega-complex can be a bit tricky once you’re inside - especially when you’re underground. All we can say is that finding your way above ground will help when that happens.
