Visit Shibuya Hikarie to eat and shop until you drop - but also to admire the stunning night views from the sky lobby.

Hikarie is one of several department stores in Shibuya. If possible, it’s even more comprehensive in its shopping and entertainment than many others in the area. With 16 floors and 3 basement floors dedicated to the art of consumerism, Hikarie is designed to keep you occupied for many happy hours. Theatre buffs will appreciate that the 11-16th floors consist of Tokyo Theatre Orb, which puts on Western-style musicals so you won’t actually have to visit the West End for your musical theatre fix.

The food halls in the basement are fabulous, and the dining experience on the restaurant floors (6F - 8F) is augmented by the views of Shibuya outside. Of particular interest on the 8th floor is the d47 eatery. Its menu consists of 47 dishes - one from each prefecture in Japan. It’s a fun way to explore regional cuisines in Japan without stepping outside of Tokyo.

Lastly, the Hikarie building is worth a visit for the splendid views. It’s a skyscraper towering over the south side of JR Shibuya Station. At 183 meters tall, it has the nice reputation of being the 40th tallest building in Tokyo. You’ll want to head up to the 16th floor sky lobby when darkness falls. Have a seat at one of the cafes or grab a drink at the convenience store and enjoy the neon lights of Shibuya glowing and pulsating beneath you. Since Hikarie is open till 11pm, it makes a lovely finish to a day out in town.
