Whether you’re looking for a delicious and casual lunch, or sake snacks to go with your soba noodles, Soba & BAR An in Akasaka has something for everyone. You must try the ramen-style hot soba noodles!

Soba menus tend to blur into one after you’ve been to a few soba restaurants. At Soba & BAR An, though, they have a rather memorable ramen-style soba dish worth trying. It’s an inventive twist on your usual soba in hot dashi broth. Think braised and grilled charshu pork and a gooey-yolked ramen egg, but with the nutty bite of soba noodles.

Surprisingly for Akasaka – a slightly upmarket business area – lunch sets are reasonably priced. There are the usual favourites like tempura soba and oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl). You can even have a half-and-half rice and noodle lunch set that’s pretty good value for money.

Soba & BAR An also has the option of hot pot at dinner time. The Okinawan pork belly hot pot is chock-full of leeks and mizuna greens. At once rich and light, it’s great for taking the edge off a chilly evening. They even have little bites to pair with their extensive sake menu in the evenings. Think delicious small snacks like grilled chicken skewers, ramen eggs, rolled omelette, and homemade tofu.
If you’re visiting Akasaka and you’re craving noodles, Soba & BAR An is a good place to have on your eating list. Lunches also finish at 4:00pm on weekends – great for a lazy, late afternoon meal.
