Tokyu Stay Shinjuku is a decent and comfortable budget option in the Shinjuku area, right near Golden Gai and Kabukicho. We love that the guest rooms have washers, dryers, and free detergent!

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly hotel in the Shinjuku area, Tokyu Stay Shinjuku should be high on your list. It’s right by the Shinjuku-Sanchome subway station, which is within walking distance to Golden Gai, the Kabukicho area, and most importantly, Isetan department store and its excellent basement food hall. You’re quite literally in the heart of all the action!
Rooms at Tokyu Stay Shinjuku are clean and comfortable. Size-wise, they’re typical for Japanese hotels, which is to say compact. This is probably not the choice for people travelling with many suitcases, but it’s good enough if you’re going to be out of the hotel all day.

Rooms have all the amenities you might need, from complimentary toiletries to a small fridge, and the shower has excellent water pressure. We like that they don’t provide bottled water in the hotel rooms - it’s the more eco-friendly option, and tap water is potable in Tokyo.
However, what really sets Tokyo Stay Shinjuku’s guest rooms apart is having a washer, dryer, and free detergent in each one. This is great if you’re on a long travel stint and need to do some laundry.
Caffeine addicts will appreciate the complimentary coffee machine in the lobby. However, the breakfast buffet is merely okay - nothing to really write home about. If you prefer an above-average meal to start your day, there are better options elsewhere in the vicinity.

The staff at this hotel are pretty friendly, and some of them speak basic English. However, as is the norm in Japan, check-in times at Tokyu Stay Shinjuku are strict and you’ll be charged extra if you wish to check in early. You can store your luggage at reception if you arrive early.
