One reason I like the Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport is that it solves a problem that catches a lot of travelers: late arrivals and early departures. Instead of paying Tokyo prices for a room you’ll barely use, you can stay right at the airport, get a proper night’s sleep and start your trip fresh the next morning.

I stay here regularly, as does my wife. In fact, we almost always stay here when we’re traveling with our children. The hotel is connected directly to Terminal 3, making it incredibly convenient after a long flight or before an early departure.

My son recently flew by himself from Vancouver to join me in Tokyo. I met him outside the arrivals hall and we walked to the Villa Fontaine Grand where I had already checked us in and then we dropped his suitcase and went to a great Korean-style yakiniku restaurant (Tokyo Yakiniku Heijoen) where we had some amazing wagyu. He then went to the room to get some sleep and I went to the spa to relax. Then, the next day, feeling clean and refreshed, we made our way into Tokyo.

The location is what makes this hotel so useful. If you’re arriving late or departing early, it’s hard to beat. You can walk straight from the arrivals area of Terminal 3 through the Sky Bridge and into Haneda Airport Garden, where you’ll find the hotel along with a good selection of restaurants, cafes and shops. There is also a convenience store in the complex, which is handy if you need snacks, drinks or travel supplies.
The rooms are modern, comfortable and generally larger than what you might expect for an airport hotel in Japan. While I wouldn’t choose it as a base for sightseeing in Tokyo, that’s not really the point. The value of staying here is that it removes stress from the beginning or end of your trip.
For travelers with early-morning flights, families with children, people arriving after a long international journey or anyone simply looking for a smooth and easy transition into Japan, I strongly recommend the Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport.
