Kyukyodo in Ginza has been selling incense, Japanese paper goods, and calligraphy supplies since 1663. It’s still a great place to pick up gifts - either for friends, or for yourself.

Souvenir shopping is tricky. Sometimes it’s hard to balance getting gifts for everyone important with conserving luggage space. In cases like this, souvenirs that are small and light fit the bill. Paper specialist Kyukyodo is the perfect place to pick up things like this.

The first floor of this specialty store is stocked with beautifully-designed envelopes, washi paper boxes, rolls of delicate, colorful paper, paper crafts, and the like. In summer, traditional Japanese paper fans go on sale, and this is a good place to pick up a stylish uchiwa to combat the heat.

Those who love incense or practice calligraphy, however, will enjoy browsing goods on the second floor. This is where you’ll find items like scent bags and special horse hair brushes.
Kyukyodo's prime location on Chuo-dori Street means it’s always swarming with tourists eager for souvenirs. Still, that doesn’t detract from the quality of its offerings. You’ll find plenty of charming paper wares and delicious-smelling incense that’ll put a smile on anyone’s face.
