Please note: Due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics have been postponed. Please check the official Olympics website for the latest updates.
To watch the swimming, diving, and synchronised swimming events during the 2020 Olympics, head to the Tokyo Aquatics Center in Koto Ward. This new state-of-the-art facility is a little further out of the city center, but worth the travel for these events!

With athletes from over 150 countries competing across 34+ events, it’s no surprise that aquatics sports form a major part of the Olympic games. Swimming in particular has its fair share of athletic celebrities from Michael Phelps to Joseph Schooling. The aquatic events are sure to be among the most popular at the 2020 Olympics!
Naturally, the new Tokyo Aquatics Centre is slated to be a large, shiny state-of-the-art facility able to accommodate large numbers of visitors flocking to watch the Olympic and Paralympic aquatic sporting events. It will have a capacity of 20,000 spectators.
Along with other venues in the Tokyo Bay area, the Tokyo Aquatics Centre is currently under construction in Tatsumi-no-mori-kaihin-koen or Tatsumi Seaside Park in Koto Ward.
While the Tokyo Bay area is a little out of the city centre, there are a number of Olympic venues in the vicinity, making it easy to travel between events should you decide to schedule multiple ones on the same day. For instance, the Tatsumi district is also home to the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Centre, the venue for the 2020 Olympic water polo events. You may as well make the most of your time in Tokyo!
The Tokyo Aquatics Center is located a 10-minute walk from Tatsumi Station on the Yurakucho subway line, or a 15-minute walk from Shiomi Station on the JR Keiyo Line. It’s also accessible by bus.

Recommended Accommodation Near Tokyo Aquatics Center
Tatsumi Seaside Park is not a major tourist destination outside the Olympics, and we recommend staying somewhere more central that will still allow you to get to the Tokyo Aquatics Center easily. The Tokyo Station and general Marunouchi area would be a good choice, since Tokyo Station is a stop on the JR Keiyo Line.
